Lanzarote

Lanzarote is the easternmost island of the Canary Islands and is located at a distance of 100 kilometres off the African coast.

It stands out for its spectacular beaches and landscapes, the average annual temperature of 22 degrees, the amiability of its locals and its delicious gastronomy, making it a unique destination.

It is an absolute geological paradise, with underwater and moonlike landscapes, crystal clear waters, volcanoes, oasis with palm trees; it is a harmonic life between man and nature and a land of contrasts.

For all these things, the whole island was declared Unesco Biosphere Reserve.

The Centres of Art, Culture and Tourism of the Lanzarote blend themselves within the island’s volcanic nature and offer several sightseeing spots that are really worth a visit to discover the true essence of Lanzarote. The local artist César Manrique, internationally known, combined art and nature in a unique way.

But what undoubtedly stands out in Lanzarote, is its natural beauty like the cliffs of Famara, home to a large number of endemic plants which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. There are more botanical endemisms per square kilometre here than in the rest of Europe.

Discover the volcanic landscapes that offer The Montañas de Fuego or Timanfaya, an unforgettable experience. A long eruption process drastically changed the morphology of the Island, leaving a quarter of it almost completely buried under a thick layer of lava and ash.

Los Jameos del Agua is a must-see place and an spectacular visit. They are located inside the volcanic tunnel created by the eruption of El volcán de la Corona. It owes its name to the existence of a lake underneath, which constitutes a unique geological formation.

Visiting La Cueva de los Verdes is truly a journey into the inner of the Earth, a unique experience. The cave is one of the largest in the world. It extends from the crater of the volcano to the sea, in an underwater section called "Tunnel of Atlantis".

The Island of Fire, as Lanzarote is also known, transports the visitor into a different universe, where the solitude of the volcanic cones, dressed in ochre and violet, and the uneven hues of the ground create an incomparable landscape.

We cannot forget that one of the most important treasures in the island is the vine production, unique in the world as it is produced in volcanic soil.

In the countless beaches of Lanzarote, surfing finds its home because it is one of the best places on the planet for its practice, with waves comparable to those in Hawaii. Lanzarote is also a great place to practice windsurfing and kitesurfing, for example at Playa de las Cucharas in Costa Teguise.

The various disciplines of sailing are benefited, in addition to favourable climatic conditions, by the existence of world class marinas. Puerto Calero near the town of Puerto del Carmen and Marina Rubicon in Playa Blanca are two great examples.

The excellent climatic conditions of Lanzarote throughout the year, along with their landscape characteristics, allow all those who look for more than just sun and beach, enjoy the nature activities.
